What a fight!

November 7, 2009, one of MMA’s biggest fights yet.The Strikeforce/M-1 Global main event between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers had over five and a half million views. I mst say I was very impressed with both performances. Rogers broke Fedor’s nose in the first round and ultimately Fedor turned the fight for his favor. Round two Fedor knockout Rogers. Rogers was beaten to the floor with a beautiful knockout distributed by Fedor. The event involved technical ground work and alot of blood from Fedor’s broken nose. I have to admit that I had to turn away for a moment because of the amount comming from Fedor. This fight literally shows how a fighter can be seriously injured and still prevail as a winner and champion. I hope that many individuals can pull from this fight what I did, I hope that the Strikeforce event paid its fighters well. Rogers was unconscious for a long period of time.

Armbars… Ouch!

Armbars are probably the most common source for amateurs getting injured. The armbar is designed to hyper-extend the elbow, if done with enough force a person can hyper-extend, break or sprain the elbow. Almost any joint that is designed to go one way can be place in an armbar. I once watched a competition where a white belt refused to tap; the outcome, he broke his elbow. It is probably one of the most immature things a competitor can do, why? Because now instead of going back to the gym and training even harder and learning from the experience, that broken elbow man has to go through a cast and physical therapy. Mixes on Martial Arts

Researching woman in the field of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I am finding that the martial arts world is taking a turn. To gain a name in this highly competitive field you not only need expertise in groundwork such as Jiu Jitsu but also areas such as Judo and in Mui Tai. MMA is becoming so competitive that is requiring that men and women have a diverse background in several areas of martial arts. The most recent large women’s competitive event was Gina Carino and Chris ‘Cyborb’ Santos on August 15^th 2009. Both women were extremely well trained and were given a lot of publicity and some consider their event to be as hyped up as male competitions. These women put on a great show and the crowd was just as ecstatic. Santos dominated the fight and won with a TKO with punches. It is amazing as to how much the world of Martial Arts has received so much attention with programs such as the UFC and MMA.

Hello! My name is Katrina Tracy and I am a Senior at Cal Poly Pomona. As a proud Bronco I am due to graduate in June 2010! I currently work as a behavior therapist in Alhambra.
